Media Binge and Media Fast

My media fast/media binge week consisted of two days of each. Monday, April 24th and Tuesday, April 25th were my media binging days. My media fasting days were designated as Wednesday, April 26th and Thursday, April 27th. I was able to keep track of my phone usage with an app called Quality Time on my phone. This app shows you daily and weekly statistics on what apps you used most on your phone for how long, and also how many times you unlocked your phone. When I first downloaded the app about 6 months ago, it was actually pretty alarming to me how much time I spent on my phone, and I consider myself to use it at a moderate rate compared to most. Nonetheless, I used this app to keep track of my time spent on my phone. My past week average (April 16th through April 23rd) was 3 hours and 2 minutes per day. For my media binge, I was hoping to get at least 4 hours in each day. On Monday, I used my phone for 4 hours and 17 minutes. On Tuesday, I used my phone for 4 hours and 32 minutes. Reflecting on the media binge, I did feel more connected to my weak ties and their activity on social media for the day. However, it felt very disrespectful when I was constantly at my phone. I was much more at home when I was on my media fast. On the Wednesday I used my phone for 2 hours and 1 minute and 1 hour and 48 minutes on Thursday. Compared to my previous week average, this was well down below. I personally am on the side of using your phone less in today's world. When I look at my phone usage in the previous weeks, it's somewhat alarming to me when I see that I was on my phone for over 24 hours in a week. Thats a whole day out of your life on your phone! I think at an extreme point, you lose your appreciation for human to human contact. This can be a negative effect for anyone who deals with people on a regular basis, in most cases.
